Many of our programmes are delivered at The Waterside Centre in Accrington or Lancashire Adult Learning at Northlight in Brierfield, with many online options available as well as evening classes.

    This free course (for Lancashire residents) will provide learners with the knowledge and basic lifesaving skills needed to assess and respond to a child or infant that is unresponsive and not breathing. The skills will include how to deliver cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a child and baby and how to access and use a defibrillator. Learners will also be able to recognise and treat choking. This course can be accessed either as a live online course or alternatively in a classroom face to face.

    This short session builds on the skills and knowledge gained during the Lancashire Lifesavers course. This progression course provides learners with the knowledge and basic lifesaving skills needed to effectively assess and treat someone who is not breathing. The skills will include how to conduct the primary survey and deliver cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult, child and baby and how to access and use a defibrillator. This course can be accessed either as a live online course or alternatively in a classroom face to face.

  • Introduction to Food Safety

    This session is designed to prepare learners for the accredited L2 Food Safety in Catering Award. Learners will utilise Moodle to access online course materials. The course will highlight the requirements of organisations to maintain safe food production and provision. Topics will include an introduction to cross-contamination, cooking, chilling and cleaning practices.

    Upon completion, learners will progress onto the accredited course. This will provide the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised food handling qualification. The intention is that learners will be developing their knowledge and skills in readiness to progressing towards an accredited qualification to support them either in their current position or to develop their CV towards finding employment. Developing the transferable knowledge and skills in a range of sectors, the introduction to food safety will increase confidence in individuals’ actions to maintain a safe and hygienic food preparation environment.

    Lancashire Adult Learning (LAL) are working in partnership with North West Ambulance Service, BBC Radio Lancashire and Lancashire County Council to provide free training as part of the #LancashireLifesaver Campaign. The aim is to train as many people as possible in essential lifesaving skills across the county. This short session is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills needed if someone suffers a heart attack or a cardiac arrest. The skills will include how to deliver cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult, and how to access and use a defibrillator. Progression is an option but not expected upon completion of this aim.

    This online programme is designed to increase learners knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental well-being. Successful completion of the required units will allow the learner to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health.

    This flexible online course allows you to gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental wellbeing to support individuals with mental health problems.

    Achievement of this qualification will help support progression into a variety of job roles and occupational areas within health and social care, or roles in other sectors which support people with mental health problems.

    If you’re aged 19 or over, you could access a level 3 qualification for free. This is part of the support available from the government to help you gain the skills you need to get the job you want - whatever your stage of life.

    A level 3 qualification is equivalent to an advanced technical certificate or diploma, or A levels.

    The qualifications could help you:

    Gain skills that employers value
    Improve your job prospects
    Earn a higher wage
