Creative Ways to Improve Your Wellbeing

Course Overview

Art activities are known to relieve stress, reduce anxiety and create an increased sense of personal wellbeing. During this online course, learners will be guided through a series of demonstrations using a range of practical techniques, reviewing the connections to the 5 ways to wellbeing throughout. All techniques and activities have been selected because of their connection to wellbeing and they will be suitable to do at home with limited materials and resources.

How long is the course?

The course is 2 hours per week/session and is delivered over 2 weeks

What Will I Learn and How Will I be Learning?

Learners will be submitting work via Moodle (Virtual Learning Platform) wherever possible. The completion of learning mats / handouts is another option for those learners who may have difficulty accessing Moodle. These resources can be emailed by the teacher prior to the course or session.

You will also be asked to photograph your work and submit these via Moodle or email.

Entry Requirements

In order to attend the course, learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above. Learners will also need a basic level of IT skills to be able to access the course and follow online instructions. If training or support is needed, please enquire about our free ICT courses.

Learners will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet. 

All devices should have a camera, sound and a microphone so they are able to interact with their teacher and peers during the course.

The course will be delivered online using Zoom or Microsoft Teams and learners will be sent the join details and links prior to the course. Both of these online platforms can be accessed via an app on a smart phone, tablet or iPad or alternatively via the relevant website: https://www.zoom.us or https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/group-chat-software

All learners will need to enrol online prior to any course starting through the colleges online enrolment portal: https://enrol.lal.ac.uk/

Online courses require a minimum of 5 learners and a maximum of 10 in order to be viable.

This course explores art processes a little deeper, looking at the connections between the 5 ways to wellbeing and art. You will try more techniques and activities to build a tool kit of art processes to improve your overall wellbeing.

It would be useful to have a pen and paper so you can make notes throughout the course.

As this is a creative course some basic art materials would be beneficial, paper, pen, pencil, scissors, glue as a minimum. If you have other art materials that is a bonus but you aren’t required to buy any other equipment.
