    In Venue
The aim of this programme is to introduce learners to East Lancashire NHS Healthcare Trust as an option for sustained employment and intensively prepare individuals for a two-week placement in the NHS in East Lancashire.

This intensive course is designed to prepare individuals for a placement opportunity within one of ELHT facilities, aimed at developing skills towards becoming a Healthcare Support Worker. The week-long course will introduce individuals to working in the NHS, the core values, skills and qualities and the roles and responsibilities of an individual wanting to progress into a clinical environment.

The programme will allow learners to understand what it takes to work in a hospital setting and the many employment options within the organisation. As part of the programme, learners will complete workshops on assessing current knowledge and experiences, identifying transferable skills and how to align these to the person specification of the Healthcare Support Worker.

The design of the course is in collaboration with ELHT to create an intensive programme that would prepare learners to initially transition into a two-week placement to hopefully progress into a role whilst understanding the values of the organisation, whatever role they may want to work in.

As part of the programme, you will be supported in your preparation for both interview and transition into placement/employment with sessions on interview skills, effective listening and how to conduct yourself to make the most of your opportunity.

As this programme is aimed at progressing individuals into employment as a Healthcare Support Worker within the NHS, guaranteed placement opportunities will be available following success at the informal interview stage.

The Study Skills for Progression course is aimed at anyone who is planning to start a Level 3 or Access course in September 2023. This course will develop a range of study skills to support the learning transition to Access and other Higher Education courses.

Our friendly and experienced tutors will introduce key skills such as academic writing, referencing and practical ICT to prepare learners for their next steps.  Learners will be given the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the facilities within our University Centre and get to know other learners who may be studying alongside them in the next academic year.

The programme is planned to run for 10 weeks, attending the venue for half a day each week.
