Get ready for a career in the digital economy through Facebook and Freeformers with Lancashire Adult Learning

Lancashire Adult Learning has teamed up with Facebook and Freeformers to upskill the county’s millennials and prepare them for work in the digital economy.

The Digital Skills Training Programme by Facebook and Freeformers, in partnership with LAL, focuses on enabling people to develop the confidence and the skills needed for future employment in an ever changing digital landscape.

A free workshop will be held at Nelson and Colne College between 6pm and 9.30pm on Wednesday 23rd January and those interested in attending are invited to sign up.

The programme specifically targets people between the ages of 18 and 30 who want to improve their digital understanding, or learn new skills, and it has been designed to help those taking part succeed both professionally and personally in the digital economy.

Over the course of a three-and-a-half-hour period, those attending the fast paced and informative workshop will cover three main areas:

  • Innovation – come up with your next big idea and prototype it!
  • Social Marketing – make the most of it for you, your career, community or business!
  • Cyber Security – tips to make you safer online!

In the UK it is estimated that digital sectors are creating jobs 2.8 times faster than the rest of the economy, and it is predicted that within 20 years 90% of all jobs will require some element of digital skills.

Director for Curriculum at Lancashire Adult Learning Andy Parkin said: “This is a fantastic course for young people looking to enhance their knowledge of the digital economy.

“The digital agenda is one of Lancashire Adult Learning’s key priorities and I’m delighted that we are able to offer this exciting workshop to improve the skills of young people in Lancashire.

“Facebook and Lancashire Adult Learning see those who are aged 18 to 30 as the generation transitioning from ‘learning to earning’ and wish to support you to achieve this.”

For more information about the course and to sign up, please contact Laura Myers at or call 0333 003 1717.

Anyone who cannot make the workshop on Wednesday 23rd January will have another chance when it will run again on Wednesday 6th March from 6pm until 9.30pm.

In February, Lancashire Adult Learning was named as the national Adult and Community Learning Provider of the Year winner at the TES FE Awards.
