Yoga for Stress and Anxiety

Course Overview

This practice of Mindful Yoga focuses on how it makes you feel, we don’t place emphasis on trying to attain certain poses or yoga positions it is more about the “felt experience”. You will learn gentle and restorative yoga and breathing practices that will enable you to slow down creating a sense of calm and wellbeing physically, mentally and emotionally.

This course is suitable for all ages and abilities; including beginners, intermediate and advanced. If you can breathe you can do Yoga.

What Will I Learn and How Will I be Learning?

Learners will be completing learning mats and/or handouts. These resources can be emailed by the teacher prior to the course or session.

You will be asked to complete:

• Learning mats to document your learning during the course.

• Online discussion

• Course hand-outs as appropriate

Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for all ages and abilities; including beginners, intermediate and advanced. It is important that all learners complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire in advance of the course wherever possible, so the teachers are aware of any pre-existing health conditions and appropriate course adaptions can be recommended where necessary.

Following completion of this questionnaire and in order to carry out exercise safely, individuals with certain pre-existing health conditions may be required to seek medical advice before completing the course. The teacher will advise individuals on this where necessary. In order to attend the course, learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English at Entry Level 3 and above.

Learners will also need a basic level of IT skills to be able to access the course and follow online instructions. If training or support is needed, please enquire about our free ICT courses. Learners will need access to a computer, laptop or tablet device with access to the internet. 

All devices should have a camera, sound and a microphone so they are able to interact with their teacher and peers during the course.

The course will be delivered online using Zoom or Microsoft Teams and learners will be sent the join details and links prior to the course. Both of these online platforms can be accessed via an app on a smart phone, tablet or iPad or alternatively via the relevant website: https://www.zoom.us or https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/group-chat-software

All learners will need to enrol online prior to any course starting through the college’s online enrolment portal: https://enrol.lal.ac.uk/

Direct enrolment links to specific courses will be provided. Online courses require a minimum of 5 learners and a maximum of 10 in order to be viable.

Additional Information

Please don’t eat any heavy food for at least one hour before the session. Advise your teacher in advance of any existing medical conditions you may have and complete the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire. Please remember Yoga is not a sport and not competitive – we all have beautiful unique bodies and are all capable of moving them in our own wonderful way. Please wear appropriate clothing to enable you to participate in the practical activities. Make sure there is adequate space around you to exercise and an exercise mat if possible. Learners may want to make notes on paper or a notepad, but a learning mat is available.

So the course can start on time, it’s important to be ready to join your online course 15 minutes prior to the official start time.
