Improve your confidence, communication and independence at the stroke of a brush

Learners wishing to improve their communication, confidence and independence through creative art can do so by signing up to a free Lancashire Adult Learning course.

Advocacy through Art is a programme designed to help learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities explore a range of art techniques and take part in practical tasks, using shape, colour and textures.

Working in groups, pairs and individually, the LAL course will allow learners to plan, design and make decisions around their own unique pieces of artwork and help improve self-advocacy and self-confidence skills. The course will conclude with an evaluation and discussion of completed artwork.

Advocacy through Art runs until March 28th at The Cornerstone in Lancaster on Tuesdays between 10am and 12 noon.

Curriculum Leader Elaine Craddock said: “The Advocacy through Art programme is a great initiative where learners can improve their lives in a creative environment.

“By providing the opportunity for learners to express themselves freely in a non-judgmental setting, you really see individuals flourish through the diverse variety of styles and techniques we look at during this fantastic course.

“As well as working on their own to promote independence, learners are also encouraged to work in pairs and in groups to allow social interaction with one another. Work is evaluated collectively too with the aim of boosting self-confidence and communication skills.

“And because the course is so extensive, running until the end of March, learners have the chance to develop and grow as individuals. This truly is a brilliant programme and I would urge learners to sign up to it.”

Advocacy through Art is just one in a huge range of courses LAL delivers across the county, from Arts and Crafts to Humanities classes, Languages to Health and Wellbeing sessions and Employability to ICT courses. Learners who enrol onto the Advocacy through Art course will be fully supported by LAL staff but learners already enrolled at other Colleges cannot be considered for this programme.
